Rapid response team established to cushion blow from Visiocorp closure
Following the recent announcement of the closure of the Visiocorp plant in Taree (now known as SMR Taree Automotive), a rapid response team has been established to minimise the impact on the local economy and assist the employees to find gainful employment locally.
Indigenous Literacy Day
Families from throughout the Manning Valley are once again invited to celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day at Taree Library on Thursday 3 September, from 10.30 – 11.30am.
Mental health forum
Greater Taree City Council Youth Services, in partnership with Hunter New England NSW Health, will be hosting a roaming Forum across four high schools in the Manning Valley called ‘Heads Up! Its time we started talking’.
Greater Taree libraries host scinema
Greater Taree City Libraries will host ‘Scinema’ - a travelling Festival of Science Film, put together by the CSIRO, to celebrate International Year of Astronomy.
Taree 'Revs Up' for the Australian Tarmac Challenge
The Australian Tarmac Challenge will be coming to Taree on Friday 4th of September as part of a four day touring event, which will begin at Eastern Creek Racecourse on Thursday 3rd September and finish at the Gold Coast on Sunday 6th September. The Taree stage of the event will take place on Keith Coleman Drive near the Taree Recreation Centre and the Visitor Information Centre between 7:30am – 9:00am.
Manning Valley welcomes our newest Australian citizens
The Sendah family from Zimbabwe recently became the Manning Valley’s newest Australian Citizens at a citizenship ceremony held in Council Chambers on Tuesday 11 August 2009.
Launch event for Taree Regional Recreation Centre upgrade
Federal Member for Adelaide Kate Ellis MP will be visiting Taree, on Tuesday 25th August, to officially mark the commencement of work at the Taree Regional Recreation Centre as part of the $2.96 million upgrade made possible through the Federal Government’s Community Infrastructure Program.
Launch of weeds awareness booklet
The Mid North Coast Weeds Advisory Committee will launch an updated booklet aimed at educating local residents on the impact of weeds on the environment at Greater Taree City Council’s Administration Centre on Wednesday 26 August at 12.30pm in the Committee Room.
Local food consumption forum
Greater Taree City Council is keen to pursue the idea of increasing local production of food at a public forum to be held at the Council Chambers on Wednesday, 26 August 2009.

Old Bar Library opens in new premises
Residents of Old Bar are now able to enjoy a larger, brighter library service following the recent re-location of Old Bar Community Library into a shopfront facing Old Bar Road adjacent the corner of Cross Street.
Council responds to hoax correspondence concerns
Greater Taree City Council has received a number of calls from concerned residents, after what appeared to be Council documents being randomly and broadly circulated within the community via mail and email, last week.
27 Community Infrastructure projects on target for September completion
Greater Taree City Council’s 27 projects that have been Federally funded under the Community Infrastructure Program are on target for completion by the end of next month.
Sporting event organisers urged to complete survey
Organisers of sporting events in the Manning valley are being urged to complete a survey to assist Greater Taree City Council in conjunction with the Taree Sport and Recreation Committee to work with sporting groups to better plan for and maximise promotional opportunities around sporting events.
Manning Valley attracts strong interest at Country & Regional Living Expo
The Manning Valley has again attracted strong interest at the 2009 Country and Regional Living Expo (formerly known as Country Week) held at Rosehill Racecourse last week with a number of business leads generated.
2009 Book Week activities
Children are being invited to go on a “Book Safari” at Greater Taree City Libraries during Children’s Book Week to discover the best Australian books written for young people this year.
Motorists reminded on use of roundabouts
Greater Taree City Council has issued a reminder to motorists on the correct use of roundabouts in response to concerns from a number of community members regarding unsafe motorist behaviour.
Council endorses Traffic Committee proposal for 50km speed limits
Council has endorsed a recommendation from Greater Taree City Council’s Local Traffic Committee that all streets within Taree have a standardized speed limit of 50km per hour to overcome the current confusion caused by varying speed zones.
