Building a better future

Manning Valley Community Plan
Greater Taree City Council is currently preparing a long-term plan for our community’s future. The Plan will look at social, environmental and economic needs and help to make the Manning Valley more sustainable.

This is your chance to have a say on the things that are really important to you in our area, what needs to be improved and what we hope the future holds for our children and grandchildren.

Council invites you to be involved in putting the Plan together.

Putting the plan together
Over the coming weeks, Council will be running phase two of the community engagement program, that will enable us to put the plan together. During the first program, from April to June, we asked you to tell us your hopes for the Manning’s future. During phase two of the program, we will look at the issues the community raised during phase one and consider some strategies for reaching our identified goals.

Phase two will involve some challenging discussions about community infrastructure, local services and what everyone is prepared to pay. After these discussions, Council will put a draft Community Strategic Plan together, for public exhibition early in 2010. Council will use the final plan to guide its decisions in the future.

What will the Plan do?
The Plan will look at a wide range of issues; from social needs to environmental management, land use, community infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, culture and the arts and opportunities for economic development.

It will set out the community’s long-term objectives for the area and identify its priorities for services and spending.

Council will base its future decisions on what is set out in the Plan. Each newly elected council will prepare a four-year delivery program, demonstrating how they will implement the things in the Community Plan during their term of office. The Plan will also be used to highlight local needs to State and Federal politicians and to lobby for more funding for our area.

This is why it’s important that as many people as possible are involved in putting the Plan together. Council needs to hear a wide variety of views to make sure the Plan truly represents what our community wants.

How can I be involved?
