Beaches & Beach Permits

Patrolled Beaches

Old Bar, Crowdy Head and Black Head Beaches are patrolled during the summer months.

Comprehensive information about Manning Valley beaches is available from the Manning Valley Visitor Information Centre.

Beach Permits

Reciprocal beach permit rights have been established between Greater Taree City Council and Great Lakes Council.

Holders of current beach permits issued by either council can access beaches in both areas.

Permit holders must, however, comply with local restrictions and policies on access and usage. Please Note: There are no reciprocal rights with Great Lakes with Seven Day Permits

Financial year (from 1 July to 30 June) - $50
Pensioner and disabled - $25.00
Seven day permit - $25.00
Replacement labels - $5.00

Charges from 1 July 2011

Dogs on Beaches

Dogs are allowed on beaches subject to the following:

  • Dogs must be accompanied by a competent person and are permitted unleashed on beaches in Council’s areas between 7pm and 8am, other than prohibited areas.
  • Dogs under the effective control of a competent person constrained by a leash are permitted on beaches within Council’s area between 8am and 7pm, other than prohibited areas.
  • Prohibited areas are designated by signage at 200 metre intervals and/or 100 metres either side of surf patrols at the following locations: Blackhead Beach, Saltwater Beach, Wallabi Point Beach, Diamond Beach, Old Bar Beach, Crowdy Head Beach, Harrington Beach (north of breakwall).
  • All National Parks & Wildlife Service domestic animal exclusion zones and any little tern nesting areas.

The competent person accompanying the dog shall remove and dispose of dog droppings from all areas
