Healthy Communities Initiative - Learn to Love Life!

The Healthy Communities Initiative aims to reduce overweight and obesity of participating communities by maximising the number of adults engaged in physical activity and healthy eating programs.

Crime Prevention

Council currently has in place a Crime Prevention Plan

The NSW Department of Justice and Attorney General assists council to develop crime prevention strategies in the local community.

Food Safety

Council's Environmental Health Officers regularly visit food shops and other premises to ensure strict hygiene and food handling standards are maintained.

Learn to Swim

Learn to Swim classes are conducted at the Manning Aquatic Leisure Centre throughout the year.

The Centre offers learn to swim lessons from Austswim accredited instructors for children aged 6 months through to adults. Private lessons are also available for both children and adults. Squad level in both junior and adult squads are available.

Pool Fences

Swimming pools must be separated from a residential dwelling by a child resistant barrier. From 1 July 2010, swimming pools located on properties which are waterfront, on land over 2 hectares or on very small properties (230m2 or less) can no longer use the automatic exemptions from the Swimming Pools Act 1992. Smoke Alarms

Legislation requires all NSW residents must have at least one working smoke alarm installed on each level of their home. This includes owner occupied, rental properties, relocatable homes or any other residential building where people sleep.

You must install smoke alarms which comply with Australian Standard 3786 (AS3786). The standard should be clearly marked on the packaging.
