Keeping of Pigeons

  • The maximum number of pigeons to be housed on each residential allotment shall be 60 pairs for a registered racing pigeon owner and 10 pairs for a non registered pigeon owner.
  • No cage or loft shall be constructed closer than 9 metres to any house or closer than 1 metre to any boundary.
  • The floor of any cage or loft shall be constructed of concrete or like materials and shall be graded and drained to a waste, and where the floor of any cage or loft is suspended above the ground, the area below the floor shall be open and kept easily accessible to prevent harbourage of vermin.
  • Any cage or loft shall be constructed of new material, or if secondhand materials are to be used they must be in sound condition and be newly painted.
  • Doors for discharge of birds for training purposes shall be positioned, where possible, so that the flight path does not pass over dwellings on adjoining allotments.
  • Approval of any proposed loft shall be obtained from Council prior to the commencement of construction.
  • Where pigeons are kept on premises, they shall be of an appropriate number and kept without nuisance.
