Taree Australia Day Celebrations

The 2014 Taree celebrations were held at the Manning Entertainment Centre.

The day started at 7.30am with a free breakfast and entertainment held in the grounds outside the Manning Entertainment Centre, 33 Manning River Drive Taree. (Refer to map below for location).

The Official Ceremony commenced at 9am and was held inside the Manning Entertainment Centre.

This year's Australia Day Ambassador was Howard Croker OAM. You can read all about him in our Media Release.

Greater Taree Australia Day Awards

Each year, the people of the Greater Taree City Council area are invited to nominate fellow citizens for Australia Day Awards. The Awards aim to recognise outstanding achievement during the past year and/or contribution to the community over a number of years.

Congratulations to this year's winners:

  • Citizen of the Year - Maureen Turner
  • Young Citizen of the Year - Amani Jensen-Bentley
  • Community Event of the Year - Wingham Akoostik Music Festival
  • Ken McDonald Memorial Sportstar of the Year - (sponsored by Greater Taree City Council and Manning River Times) - Arlene Blencowe

The winners were announced at the Australia Day Ceremony on 26 January 2014.

Celebrations were also held at the following locations:

Wingham Central Park
7.30am Free breakfast - 8am flag raising, awards presentation and Australia Day Address by Wingham High School Captains.

Old Bar Public School
7am Free breakfast - 8am flag raising, Address by Stephen Bromhead MP, Old Bar & Mitchells Island School leaders, awards presentation to Old Bar Citizen of the Year and Youth of the Year.

Harrington Memorial Hall
7am Free breakfast - 8am flag raising, guest speakers and community awards

Hallidays Point Black Head Beach (Lions Club)
7am Free breakfast on the beach - 8am flag raising, address by Lions Ambassador and presentation to the Lions Club Citizen of the Year.
