Council Seeking Funding for Old Bar Road

Wednesday 4 November 2009

Greater Taree City Council is examining possible funding sources for the upgrading of the intersection of Old Bar Road and Warwiba Road, Old Bar following the two tragic accidents that occurred in September this year and last year.

Council’s Engineering Department is reviewing the layout of the intersection and determining the design of the improvements needed, so that work can commence as soon as funding becomes available.

One of the possible funding sources for this particular location is the federally-funded Blackspot Program. It is intended to have this intersection submitted to the Federal Blackspot Program for consideration in next year’s application process.

Council’s Local Traffic Committee will be reviewing this section of Old Bar Road to ascertain what measures can be taken in the meantime to improve safety. This investigation will examine the need for warning and safety signs for travelling motorists and will also take into account a submission made by Eggins Comfort Coaches requesting warning signs for bus stops in this section of Old Bar Road.
