The co-curators of the exhibition are Taree born Australian, Brian Wallace who founded the internationally renowned Red Gate Gallery in Beijing in 1991 and Catherine Croll, Director of Cultural Partnerships Australia. Brian and Kate will be here for the installation and opening of the Exhibition.

PLANNING is well underway for Taree’s first international food and wine festival, “Interfest”, to be held in March next year. Chamber president Shane McLeay said Mr Tull’s concept of Interfest was unlike many other festivals, in that each year a different country will be featured. “Italian passion for great food and wine, fashion, motor cars and bikes along with their culture has influenced Australia and its people possibly more than any other country on earth so it is fitting that we begin our annual festival by showcasing all of the wonderful things that we now take for granted but which originated in Italy,” Mr McLeay said. Clubs and restaurants will be encouraged to introduce special Italian theme nights as a lead up to the main weekend and schools will be asked to introduce special projects to highlight Italian culture. 2010 Australian Master Pastry Chef of the Year, John Ralley, has accepted an invitation to be a part of the festival. Manning residents and visitors can also look forward to displays of exotic Italian cars such as Ferrari and other makes as well as Italian motor cycles, fashion and food. “Producers within a radius of approximately 100km of Taree and local restaurants will be working together to ensure that everyone enjoys the festive experience and the committee will encourage visitors to taste the offerings that are available in this fast growing gourmet region. Producers of seafood, beef, lamb, pork, wines, olives, cheeses, nuts and other fresh produce will be invited to become involved,” Mr McLeay said. Another event sure to attract interest will be a cocktail making championship hosted by world renowned cocktail exponent Alex Beaumont. The committee is planning some outdoor events to be held on the Manning River foreshore and its surrounds with water based events planned to entertain the crowds along with fabulous food and wine, musical items and innovative competitions for all age groups. On the final day, a family Sunday breakfast will be held. An application will be made to the relevant authorities to close Victoria Street to traffic between Pulteney and Manning Streets and the committee hopes to fill Victoria Street with people enjoying themselves at the breakfast. Taree Business Chamber will be encouraging local businesses to dress shop windows with an Italian theme and Mr McLeay said council will be asked to display both nations’ flags throughout the CBD. The festival committee will be working very closely with Manning Valley Tourism to ensure the message of Interfest is spread far and wide. “Interfest has the potential to become one of the largest regional food and wine festivals in Australia as the Manning is an easy four hours drive for over four million people,” Mr McLeay said. “We trust that this festival will be heavily supported as much of the revenue generated will come from outside our region and Interfest will also bring many people together to celebrate all that is good in the Manning.” Members of the public or businesses who wish to become a sponsor of Interfest or become involved in any way with assistance or ideas are asked to contact Geoff Tull on 6552 5486.
