The Coopernook Action Group and Greater Taree City Council have been working in partnership to plan for a better future for the village with the draft Coopernook Village Plan now on exhibition for comment and feedback.
The plan has explored the community’s aspirations following comprehensive community consultation and engagement that has formed the basis for the exciting new plan for the village’s future.
The draft Coopernook Village Plan provides a strategic framework for future infrastructure and public amenity improvements. In addition, a proposed amendment to the draft Greater Taree Development Control Plan 2008, being exhibited alongside the village plan, is intended to inform future conservation and development within the village.
Greater Taree City Council’s Manager of Environmental and Strategic Planning, Richard Pamplin said that public amenity improvements have already commenced during the preparation of the draft village plan as the community, State and Federal Governments together with Council have become proactively engaged in the reformation of the Coopernook Foreshore.
“Works already undertaken on the site include the construction of the Coopernook Heritage Wharf Monument, the installation of the Old Bridge Tower on the foreshore reserve and preliminary landscaping treatments.
“The proposed works for the site, including some already underway, include the ongoing landscaping of the site and the installation of a BBQ and seating area, the installation of a fishing platform, pontoon, boat ramp, carpark and utilities as well as the rehabilitation of the natural environment within the precinct.”
Mr Pamplin added that the draft Coopernook Village Plan and the draft amendment to the draft Greater Taree Development Control Plan 2008 may be viewed until Monday 26 October at Council’s Administration Centre, on Council’s website and at the Coopernook General Store.
”We invite members of the community to view the draft plans and provide comments and feedback. Council would also like to thank the Coopernook Action Group and the local community for their continued enthusiasm and support of this project.”
