Greater Taree City Libraries are excited to announce that ‘Baby Let’s Read’, an early literacy program for parents and carers and their babies from 0 – 12 months old, will be starting at Halliday’s Point Library+ on Wednesday 11 November 2009.
Parents and carers are invited to bring their little ones along to a fun-filled session of books, action songs and finger rhymes in the library from 10.30 – 11.30am, and then to enjoy morning tea with the group.
Debbie Horgan, Coordinator of Children’s and Youth Services at Taree Library, said: “that sharing books and rhymes with your baby is important for the development of their future literacy skills – and it’s so much fun! The ‘Baby Let’s Read’ program provides a great opportunity for parents and carers to get together to share familiar rhymes, and to learn new ones.”
Ms Horgan said that ‘Baby Let’s Read’ has been held on a monthly basis at Taree Library this year, and has a regular group of families attending. “It’s wonderful to see the babies and parents having such a good time singing nursery rhymes and exploring books together.”
Baby Let’s Read sessions at Halliday’s Point Library will be held on the second Wednesday of the month. Sessions at Taree Library are held on the first Monday of the month from 10.30 -11.30am.
This early literacy program is part of an overall Literacy Project being delivered by Greater Taree City Libraries, as a community partner in the Communities for Children program facilitated by Mission Australia.
