Courage to Care - An Exhibition of Personal Courage
Wednesday, 23 July 2008
to Sunday, 31 August 2008
“Every Individual has the Power to make a Difference”
Courage to Care is a travelling exhibition and educational program, which aims to convey the message that every individual can make a difference. It also demonstrates how an ordinary person can make a difference - to save a life, to assist people in need and to counter bullying by speaking out against any form of discrimination. It aims to increase cultural awareness and encourage understanding.
Courage to Care is an exhibition about people and a tribute to the heroism of individuals who risked their lives during the Holocaust by saving the lives of Jews and others.
.“Caring – really caring for your fellow human beings – sometimes takes courage.”
This exhibition is unique, moving and made inspiring by the presence of some of the original heroes and Holocaust Survivors, relating their personal and remarkable stories of the courage of ordinary people who risked their lives to save them. They also act as guides and story-tellers and demonstrate the relevance of their stories in today’s world.
One Holocaust Survivor, Halina Robinson, says her reason for working with Courage to Care is, “It’s my way of saying thank you to the dozens of people and their families who put their lives on the line to save me.”
Adrianne Van As, with the help of his wife, saved over 1000 people during the Holocaust. His response to this remarkable act is simply, “I did what any normal person would do.”
After visiting Courage to Care in Newcastle, a Year 10 student wrote:
“ I learned that by doing one simple thing you can make a big difference to someone’s life. We should have the courage to not just be another link in the chain of wrong but to dare to speak out and break the chain”.
