| Youth Development Officer | | Greater Taree City Council employs a full time Youth Development Officer to oversee Council's Youth Services.
The Youth Development Officer is also responsible for: | |
 | Identifying youth needs and developing recommedations and programs to address those needs. |  | Liaising with youth service providers to ensure maximum resources sharing. |  | Resourcing the Greater Taree Youth Advisory Committee. |  | Providing information to young people and their families. |  | Planning and co-ordinating Youth Week activities. |  | Seeking funding from appropriate sources to further develop youth services and programs in Greater Taree. |

| Greater Taree City Council Youth Policy | | In 2001 Greater Taree City Council adopted it's first Youth Policy.
The Policy confirms Council's commitment to young people living and visiting the Greater Taree local government area.
YOUTH POLICY Policy # 5.02.11
To recognise the vitality of young people and their important contributions to this community.
POLICY STATEMENT The Council has a commitment to encourage and develop services and facilities for young people and acknowledges: | |
 | That the rights of local young people include the right to live in a safe, caring, participatory, non discriminatory and just community. |  | That young people have a responsibility to contribute to achieving and maintaining these rights. |  | The right of young people to participate in and have access to the decision making processes that affect their lives. |  | That the well being of young people needs to be nurtured, fostered and protected at all times. |  | That young people play an integral role in and make a positive contribution to, their local community. |

 | Seek and promote opportunities to assist young people to grow into future adult citizens and leaders with knowledge, optimism and purpose. |  | Support the interests of young people in the relevant activities of local government and in community development. |  | Take a positive and supportive stand on youth and broader community issues which promote an acceptance of young people as part of the wider community. |  | Actively encourage the inclusion of young people in all aspects of community life and promote positive recognition of their achievements. |  | Develop and maintain strategies for involving young people in community planning and service delivery. |  | In consultation with young people, identify, provide or facilitate the provision of services that meet the needs of young people and maximises their quality of life and well being. |
